EU citizens are able to travel freely with a passport or identity card.
If you’re not from an European Union country, you must have a valid passport to enter Spain. It should be valid for the whole of your stay.
You may also need a visa, depending on which country you’re from.
For citizens of more than 60 countries, there is the option of requesting the ETIAS travel authorization, a permit for tourism or business that is easy to manage online and that allows its holder to move freely through the countries of the Schengen Zone.
The ETIAS permit allows entry to Spain for a short period of time, as long as it does not exceed 90 days and within a validity period of 3 years from the date of processing.
If you are not part of the ETIAS countries or the reasons for your trip are different, you should check the requirements to apply for the Schengen visa or check different visas available to enter Spain.

Street crime is often opportunistic, especially during those dates with Bilbaos' festivities, so making yourself less of a target, moving with purpose and being aware of your surroundings will go a long way to keeping you safe. Plan your route in advance. Carry a charged mobile phone and some cash, and tell someone where you’re going. Keep your valuables including your mobile phone, other devices and jewellery, hidden. Try to avoid walking alone at night in places such as parks and side streets or any unfamiliar environment.
